Mechanical binding styles such as Wire-O and plastic spiral are valued for their ability to fold 360 degrees and incorporate a mix of stocks. At Coyne Graphic Finishing, our mechanical binding capabilities allow these styles to be used for large-format applications such as wall calendars and point-of-purchase displays.
Here are a few tips to keep in mind when preparing a project for Wire-O or plastic spiral binding:
Supply collated and trimmed signatures – At Coyne, we recommend that customers supply signatures pre-collated and trimmed, allowing us to automatically punch and then bind them. We can also perform these services if you’d prefer.
Leave appropriate punching margins – Be sure to leave at least a 3/8” margin at the binding edge for the punched holes. This margin is sufficient for most binding element diameters; especially large diameters may require a larger margin.
Include user-friendly features – We can help you incorporate a range of user-friendly features into your mechanically-bound products, including built-in cover easels, table tents, index tabs, foldouts, nylon pockets and much more. Our flat-sheet collating capabilities, which allow for sheet sizes up to 11” x 17”, are ideal for adding many of these features.
Cover versatility – In addition to the bound-in features above, Coyne can also help you design a semi- or fully-concealed cover for your project. These wraparound cover styles create a printable spine for easy identification on a shelf – great for retail displays!
