Mechanical Binding for Large Formats

At Coyne Graphic Finishing, we offer three popular large-format mechanical binding styles: Double-loop (Wire-O), plastic spiral and plastic comb binding.

Here are a few details of each to keep in mind while planning your projects:

Wire-O Binding – Wire-O (also called Double-loop) binding is perhaps the most popular mechanical binding style. Wire-O-bound books cannot only fold completely flat, but can be folded 360 degrees cover-to-cover for use as a display piece. Foldout panels, index tabs and a mix of stocks can all be easily incorporated into the Wire-O production process.

Plastic spiral binding – This binding style offers many of the advantages of Wire-O binding, including the ability to fold cover-to-cover and include a range of stocks. One unique aspect to this style is that the plastic binding elements spring back to shape if crushed. This can be particularly useful in high-abuse usage environments such as classrooms and industrial workplaces. Plastic comb binding – Cookbooks, teacher’s manuals and guidebooks are just a few of the large-format products that benefit from plastic comb binding. The main advantage of this binding style is that it allows for printing on the spine – or the comb, to be exact. As with other mechanical binding styles, plastic comb elements are available in many colors to match the design of your products.
