Coyne Adds Turned-Edge Binding to its Finishing Arsenal
Turned-edge binding is a finishing specialty that is growing in popularity but remains particularly hard to find in the U.S.--and for good reason.
It involves mastering several finishing processes, and requires a high investment threshold for getting started.
But then, Coyne Graphic Finishing has never been afraid to take on a challenge.
That's why Coyne has announced the addition of turned-edge binding, a finishing service available from less than a half dozen sources in North America.
Turned-edge binding is used primarily in the production of single-piece binders, joint multi-flap or milled folders, and book covers. It involves several separate finishing operations, including precision spotting and gluing of the cover material to a board substrate, the creasing of the cover material and board, turning in of the edges, as well as roller pressing and output functions.
Coyne's new turned-edge system is one of the most advanced of its kind. Built by CMC in Italy, it features one-pass automatic corner folding, hot- and cold-glue compatibility, and programmable, high-power precision creasing. It accommodates all types of creases, including multi-crease spines. The system can crease as many as 100 positions and stores up to 100 creasing programs.
Flexibility is one of the reasons why Coyne chose this particular turned-edge system. It is designed for short-run production. Set-up is
relatively simple and changeovers can be accomplished quickly.
